Lab Safety 101

Welcome to Lab Safety 101,
your go-to resource for mastering safe practices in the laboratory!
Put your knowledge to the test with our interactive video and waste disposal simulation.

Interactive Safety Video

Engage in the interactive laboratory safety video, which displays common rule-breaking scenarios in the lab. This hands-on approach helps you learn from real-world scenarios and reinforces the importance of following lab safety protocols.

Can you catch all the errors?

Waste Disposal Simulation

Are you ever unsure which waste container to use for your chemicals? We’ve got you covered! Enhance your understanding of proper chemical waste disposal with our interactive simulation game. This will help you identify the appropriate containers for different types of waste, ensuring you always know what to do.

Insight for Our Research

Lab safety is of great importance. However, learning about it can be daunting and is often overlooked. To this end, we researched this topic and produced two lab simulations. Feel free to read our paper!

Abstract

This study investigates how interactive tasks and visual simulations affect students' understanding and memory of laboratory safety procedures. Specifically, it assesses whether the implementation of interactive video simulations in MSP laboratory safety education can enhance comprehension and retention of safety protocols. The overall aim is to enhance the learning experience by improving information retention, thereby better preparing students to handle real-life laboratory situations safely and effectively. The study emphasises how these instructional resources can improve students' engagement and problem-solving abilities. Current safety training materials at MSP were found to be deficient, leading to the need for improvement. Consequently, a website was developed with a waste disposal simulation and an interactive safety video. Surveys were employed to evaluate the effectiveness of these tools, the results of which revealed a favourable effect on students' learning objectives. The study concludes that students' learning experience can be significantly improved by incorporating interactive simulations into laboratory safety education.
